About Serra
Serra Industria Dolciaria was founded in 1947 in Lastrico, in an area of Serravalle Scrivia. The still traditional laboratory method, almost the same used by master pastry makers, encompasses the passion and enthusiasm of a young couple, Fiorenza Serra and Loredana Ferrari.
Ten years of hard work create the conditions to transfer the company to a new site, in the open countryside outside Serravalle Scrivia. Two sheds become three and the product range is expanded to include soft candies and then chewing gum.
In the 80's, with the increasingly greater success of mass distribution, a new generation emerges: the children Alessandra and Luigi, after earning their degrees, begin working in the company and come face-to-face with a market that has undergone profound changes.
In 2005 Serra Industria Dolciaria opened its brand-new state-of-the-art production plant in Novi Ligure (Province of Alessandria, Northern Italy), in a district with a long-standing confectionery tradition.
The Serra company has passed with flying colours the tests for environmental management certification ISO 14001 and production quality certification IFS, putting us at the forefront in this field in Italy.
This is a major achievement for the image of a quality-focused producer and confirms our commitment to the environment and sustainable development within the confectionery and agrifood industrial district of Novi Ligure. All company departments were involved in the process for obtaining the two certifications: both line workers and office workers participated with enthusiasm, under the coordination of the Quality Office, which organised meetings and training classes and drafted manuals and procedures. The Serra company believes that these certifications, including the environmental management certificate, are key drivers of ongoing improvement and better performance.
Serra Industria Dolciaria pays great attention to environmental issues, as evidenced by its large investment (2019) in photovoltaics: by covering the entire surface of the plant with panels, Serra now receives over 45% of the energy needed directly from the Sun. For the future, Serra will pay more and more attention to all aspects of sustainability of its production.
